Tasmania has a reputation for being Australia’s hiking mecca and without a doubt the Overland Track is Australia’s best known walking trail. It is on just about every hikers’ bucket list and for many non hikers its the walking trail they most aspire to do with the possible exception of the Kokoda Track in Papua New Guinea.

The Overland Track is certainly one of Australia's most famous treks. There is a popular 65 km option, which goes around the rim of Lake St Clair, but the Cradle Mountain Run covers the full 82 km. You can pretty much see the whole overland track and its part of the track where I feel the most immersed in the wilderness. What's your favourite memory from working for TWC? My favourite memory from the Overland track was having an India vs. Australia cricket match on the helipad at our Kia Ora hut at the end of day 4. For anyone of reasonable fitness and good health, pull on the boots, challenge yourself and see this amazing part of Australia first-hand. The Track’s vegetation also includes plains covered with a kind of tussock-forming grass called Button Grass, alpine fields covered with herbs, and prolific amounts of mosses. Native animals seen on the Overland Track include Pademelons (a kind of small marsupial), opossums (or possums). The Overland Track is an iconic, multi-day walk through the Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park.
